HARD-HITTING DRUG ADVERTS LAUNCHED

A hard-hitting advertising campaign on the dangers of smoking heroin is set
to be launched, ahead of an expected rise in the number of drug deaths last
year.

Deputy justice minister Hugh Henry will also outline the Scottish
Executive's policy to tackle the problem at the Taking Action on Scotland's
Drug-related Deaths conference in Glasgow.

The move will come after a major study into the deaths of 317 Scots in 2003
found that relatively simple steps, including use of the recovery position
and mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, may have saved some of those lives.
