PROSECUTORS SEEK THREE MONTHS FOR LESLIE

Indonesian prosecutors in the drug possession case involving
Australian woman Michelle Leslie say they will only ask for a three
month sentence.

Twenty-four-year-old Leslie was arrested outside a dance party in Bali
on August 21.

The page-and-a-half indictment read out at the start of her trial
alleged she was arrested with two ecstasy tablets and detailed two
charges, one carrying a maximum 15 year jail term, the other as little
as three months.

Leslie, from Adelaide, has today told the court that she did not know
that two pills inside her handbag were ecstasy.

In her testimony, the 24-year-old said the pills were given to her by
a friend named Mia, who has since disappeared.

Leslie said Mia had told her that the tablets were medicine to help
with her anxiety attacks.

Leslie has previously told the court she is a drug
addict.

If she receives a three month sentence, Leslie could step out of the
court and go free after having already been in custody for that period
following her arrest.

The trial was adjourned until 15 November.

Leslie arrived at the Denpasar District Court today alongside the Bali
nine defendant, Renae Lawrence.

Unlike last week, the two were not shackled together.

Lawrence is among nine Australians on trial over the alleged attempt
to smuggle a total of 11.2 kilograms of heroin to Australia
