52 ALIENS NABBED FOR DRUGS IN 2004

FIFTY-TWO foreigners involved in drugs, 21 of them suspected Chinese drug
lords, were arrested by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency last year,
PDEA chairman Anselmo S. Avenido Jr. said yesterday.

"Chinese nationals again topped the number of foreigners arrested for
illicit drug activities last year, most of them believed to be involved in
the operation of clandestine shabu laboratories we smashed last year,"
Avenido said.

Anti-narcotics agents last year smashed 11 secret shabu laboratories and 10
storage facilities in separate operations nationwide, the latest of which
was in Davao City where troops shot dead six suspected drug lords, said
Deputy Director General Ricardo F. de Leon of the Anti-Illegal Drugs
Special Operations Task Force of the Philippine National Police.

Other foreigners arrested were seven Americans, three each from Great
Britain, Indonesia, Japan and Korea; two each from Malaysia and Taiwan; and
one each from Australia, Canada, Netherlands, Egypt, Iran and Lebanon.
