CRIME STOPPERS BOSS SAYS TIPS PLENTIFUL FOR VIOLENT CRIMES

Heinous crime is a magnet for tips, Pete Netherway said.

The chief executive officer and co-ordinator of Kamloops Crime
Stoppers said the response of the public to the crime governs the
number of tips his organization receives.

"If you get home invasions or a young couple beaten up on the streets
of Kamloops - we'd get so many tips . . . the public really responds
to people-oriented crimes," Netherway said.

The tip organization had an average year in 2004, recording more than
800 tips and paying out $10,500 in approved awards.

One-third of the tips were drug related.

In the past two years, Crime Stoppers assisted the RCMP in the seizure
of $8,456,840 worth of drugs.

"It's a hell of a pile."
