DRUG POLICY FOR SD 73

School District 73 has adopted its new policy regarding drugs and
alcohol in schools, effective immediately.

At its last meeting, the board approved the policy that will see a
zero-tolerance stand taken toward drugs and alcohol on school
property and at the same time the policy is being designed to help
students. For those caught there is a suspension, but the student
will be given time to do school work, so he or she is not behind, and
a chance to speak with counsellors is also available.

Student athletes would be suspended from play for a calendar year
under the new rules.

Trustee Dick Dickens said the policy was adopted at the last board
meeting of the 2004/2005 school year so that it can include school
teams that start pre-season play in August.

Trustee Diane Dosch of Logan Lake has been appointed to the B.C.
School Trustees Association's legislative committee for the 2005/2006
school year.
