PESTICIDES

In the July 19 editorial "Killers on Probation," The Bee said, "Despite a
massive, U.S.-funded program of spraying coca and poppy fields with
pesticides, production and transport of narcotics continues at previous
levels."

It's no wonder the United States is finding it difficult to stop the
narcotics traffic in Colombia, what with our contributing so mightily to
controlling their pest problem. Perhaps if we used herbicides on the crops
we might find that the traffic is reduced.
