DPP REQUESTS DETAILS TO CONSIDER CORBY WITNESS IMMUNITY

The Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) is seeking
more information before it will consider an indemnity application
from the lawyers of convicted drug smuggler Schapelle Corby.

In a statement released today, the DPP says it would be inappropriate
to grant general indemnity to witnesses as requested by Corby's legal team.

The DPP says it can only grant indemnity for specific people based on
specific information and has requested details from Corby's head
lawyer, Hotman Paris Hautpea.

Corby's legal team says they know of a person who wants to admit in
court to placing marijuana in her bag but only if they are granted immunity.

In May, Corby was convicted of smuggling 4.1 kilograms of marijuana
into Bali and sentenced to 20 years in jail.

Corby has another week to produce new witnesses for the re-opened
hearing of her case in Bali.
