HIGH GRASS HIDES GRASS OF ANOTHER KIND

Plant It And They Will Come -- The RCMP That Is.

Some brazen marijuana growers have given a new meaning to the term
"high"way after Burnaby Mounties harvested 170 pot plants growing just a
stoner's throw from the Trans-Canada Highway.

"When you think of the volume of [vehicular] traffic that travels through
that area on a daily basis and the stuff was just blending in," RCMP
spokesman Cpl. Pierre Lemaitre said yesterday.

"The rest of the grass was tall enough that they [drivers] wouldn't see it."

Surveyors spotted the natural grow-op near the northbound Caribou exit and
called RCMP.

The police have a message for the highway hempsters.

"If you show up and you think somebody stole your drugs, don't get too
excited -- just call us," Lemaitre said.

"Sometimes that happens -- where one will turn the other one in -- but you
never know.

"In this case, our main concern is at least it's off the street."
