Problems started in the man's family when his estranged wife kicked out their son's friend when she found the pair smoking marijuana in her apartment. She told the teen to leave and that he was no longer welcome at the residence. She accused him with supplying drugs to her teenage son. After being kicked out of the apartment the 19-year-old friend called the residence and left a message threatening to burn the apartment building down. The taped message was recovered by police. The father then went to his son's friend's house as he wanted to rectify the situation. He told the teen he wanted to talk with him, but the teen refused. The man then kicked the teen off of his chair and then several more times while he was on the ground. "I can't turn the clock back but I wish I could," said the man being charged with assault. Judge Doug Rae said he understood that the man felt his family was being threatened, however, he condemned the man for taking the matter "into his own hands." "You're remedy was to go to the police; that is what they are there for," said Judge Rae. The man pleaded guilty to the assault charge and will receive two years of probation. He will not be able to contact the complainant or go within 100 metres of their rural Strathcona home. - --- MAP posted-by: Beth
