POLITICIANS SNOOZE THROUGH POT BUST

To the editor:

God bless Geoff Olson for telling it like it is ("Long arm of the law
reaches paranoid fantasy levels," Aug. 7).

While our national media seem to be missing the point, Olson clearly states
that it's our civil liberties and Canadian sovereignty that are at stake in
Emery's arrest.

Does the Texas twang carry so much weight in this country that the RCMP and
Vancouver City Police jump whenever they hear it? When the RCMP sold its
trademark to Disney, did their sovereignty go with it?

The real point here is, who's next? Some irksome labour leader or a
particularly outspoken investigative journalist? Or a Canadian lawyer who
counsels American soldiers who want to leave their armed forces?

Our politicians are asleep at the wheel-even Larry Campbell is silent on
this arrest, even though he called for the legalization of pot.

Perhaps the Senate seat is enough to send someone to snoozeville.
