PNP VIGILANCE ORDERED VS. DRUGS, TERRORISTS AS 2 MAJOR EVENTS NEAR

Bacolod police director, Senior Supt. Vicente Ponteras, yesterday said
he has ordered his men to be vigilant against terrorist activities and
the proliferation of illegal drugs during the MassKara Festival in
October and the South East Asian Games in November.

Ponteras said the police is not discounting the possibility that
Bacolod could be the next target of terrorists because of the SEAG and
MassKara, that is why he has ordered his men to intensify their peace
and order and anti-terrorism campaigns.

The supply of shabu and marijuana are also expected to increase
because of rising demand during the two activities, he said.

Ponteras said he has asked the Negros Occidental Police Provincial
Office and the regional headquarters for additional policemen to
augment the Bacolod PNP during the MassKara and SEAG. Security
agencies, barangay tanods and civilian volunteers are also being
tapped to help, he said.

Meanwhile, Al Victor Espino, Sanggunian chairman of Police, Security
and Jail Management Committee, said he is coordinating with Ponteras
on the security preparations for the two activities set in the city.
