POT BUST SUSPECT FACES IMMIGRATION HEARING

Saskatchewan News Network

REGINA -- A suspect in an extensive marijuana grow operation on the
Pasqua First Nation has been granted bail, but he was promptly
arrested by immigration officials Friday afternoon.

Indiana resident Luke Zigovitz, 25, was released from custody on his
criminal code charges after a lengthy hearing at Regina provincial
court Friday, but was taken back into custody to face his immigration
matters.

Tim Brown, one of two lawyers representing the accused, said Zigovitz
would likely have an immigration hearing Monday to determine whether
he'll be released from custody again. Until then, Zigovitz will remain
at the Regina Correctional Centre.

Zigovitz has been in custody since Aug. 21, when police busted a
multimillion-dollar marijuana grow-operation on a Pasqua farm and
charged seven men in connection with the operation.

Ontario resident Chester Girard, 57, and 53-year-old Jack Northwood of
no fixed address will remain in custody until at least next week,
after provincial court Judge Janet McMurtry reserved her decision on
whether or not either of the men should receive bail.

Meanwhile, co-accused Lawrence Agecoutay, 49, Joseph Agecoutay, 44,
and Robert Agecoutay, 46, are expected to have bail hearings next week.

Ontario resident Brian McConnell, 18, has had the charges against him
stayed.
