DISPLACED JUETENG MEN MAY SHIFT TO DRUGS, MAYOR WARNS

TALAVERA, Nueva Ecija - With jueteng totally stopped, Mayor Nerito L.
Santos warned the local police to be vigilant because displaced
persons might resort to peddling drugs.

Santos raised this scenario as he ordered the local police to further
intensify their anti-drug operations in the town's 53 barangays.

Santos asked Chief Insp. Arnel Libed, town police chief, to strictly
monitor suspected drug-infiltrated barangays, particularly those
situated within the Poblacion and Bakal district and those in the
Cabanatuan City area.

To avert such a situation, Santos said he put up a sports development
program and livelihood projects for the displaced people, particularly
for the out-of-school youths, the 4-H Club and the senior citizens.

Gov. Tomas N. Joson III, Vice Gov. Boyet Joson and first district Rep.
Josie Manuel-Joson, who released P6 million from her congressional
fund, are assisting the municipal government in pursuing these projects.
