OVERDUE POT REFORM

Re: Whither Pot Reform? editorial, Sept. 16.

Congratulations to the Post's editorial staff for their stand on marijuana
reform. Canada should decriminalize pot possession because of the corrosive
effect of prohibition on Canadian youth and the waste of precious law
enforcement resources entailed in pursuing recreational users. This kind of
criminal law policy is not something on which to defer to a foreign
country's wishes, even a powerful and important one like our southern
neighbour.

We spend so much energy worrying about our softwood exports, let's not
dwell paranoiacally on concerns about the softest export of all.
