PDEA AGENTS SEIZE P2.7-B ILLEGAL DRUGS

AGENTS of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency seized more than P2.7
billion worth of illegal drugs, including nearly seven tons of shabu,
from July to August, PDEA chairman Undersecretary Anselmo S. Avenido
Jr. said yesterday.

A total of 3,558 violators of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive
Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 were also arrested during the period while
2,033 cases were filed against the suspects.

The PDEA chief said that in July, PDEA and Philippine National Police
operatives seized nearly 3.6 tons of shabu; 50,706 marijuana plants;
6,000 marijuana seedlings; 1,506 grams of marijuana seeds; 114.2 tons
of dried marijuana leaves; 40,727 marijuana sticks; 101.2 grams of
marijuana resins; three grams of marijuana teabags and 39.6 Valium
tablets.

Last month, the haul consisted of nearly two tons of shabu; 407,881
marijuana plants; 207 marijuana seedlings; 98,893.84 grams of dried
marijuana leaves; 82 marijuana sticks and 630 Valium tablets.

A total of 633 drug users, 208 possessors, 824 pushers, 12 marijuana
cultivators and a financier were arrested in July while in August, a
total of 1,880 suspects including 752 users, 236 possessors, 891
pushers and a marijuana cultivator were nabbed.

Avenido said a total of 704 cases of violation of RA 9165 were filed
in July while another 1,329 cases were filed last month.
