RADIGAN CASE TURNED OVER TO COUNTY SHERIFF

OLMSTED FALLS _ The ongoing investigation into drug charges against
Service Supervisor Mike Radigan has been turned over to the Cuyahoga
County Sheriff's Office.

The change was made after Olmsted Falls police Detective Alex Bakos
told a television reporter about allegations of personnel files being
misplaced or disappearing at City Hall.

Bakos also reported his allegations to Cuyahoga Common Pleas Court,
prompting presiding judge Richard McMonagle to order the
jurisdictional change, according to Inspector Rob Havranek, speaking
for the sheriff's office.

Havranek also stated that a grand jury indictment could come against
Radigan within the next two weeks.

Radigan was arrested on Sept. 2 for possession of cocaine in the
city's Service Department building. Radigan subsequently resigned
from his city job and from his position as assistant football coach
with the Olmsted Falls School District.

The scope of the investigation broadened with the arrest of another
Olmsted Falls resident, Gregory J. Miller, upon his arrival at
Cleveland Hopkins International Airport. Miller will face charges of
distributing cocaine.

Miller has had several drug-related convictions, including a
six-month sentence at Lorain Correctional Institution in 1996 for
drug trafficking and cultivating marijuana.

His most recent conviction, for drug possession in 2003, resulted in
house arrest.

The recent developments in the prosecution have frustrated some City
Council members as they press for further answers.

Council members Joe Vitale and Ann Marie Donegan asked for a special
meeting with Detective Bakos on Sept. 23, only to be informed by
Chief Jeff Rice that the case had been transferred to the Sheriff's
Office. Per the request of Chief Douglas Burkhart of the Sheriff's
office, Rice said all officers would be refraining from further comment.

Council President Beverly Smith said she is anxious to gain further
information on the case, but, like the rest of council, is waiting for answers.

Until they have charges, we cannot act, she said.
