BUSINESS COMMUNITY TO HEAR ABOUT SCOURGE OF CRYSTAL METH

The problem of crystal meth and what it means to the business community
will be the topic Oct. 12, when former MLA Mike Hunter addresses members of
the Greater Nanaimo Chamber of Commerce at their monthly luncheon.

Hunter is chairman of Nanaimo's crystal meth task force.

Hunter chaired a recent public forum on the problems associated with the
manufacturing and use of methamphetamine in Nanaimo.

Following the model adopted in Maple Ridge, which tackled the same issue
two years ago, the forum generated several task forces to address community
awareness and prevention issues.

Use of the easily manufactured and highly addictive drug is on the rise in
the city. Community awareness is seen as the first step to curb the problem.

"It does dramatically affect the business community and I think its
something they need to hear," said Cori-Lynn Carlson, executive director of
the Chamber.

The luncheon will be held Oct. 12 at the Grand Hotel, beginning at 11:45
a.m. For tickets please call 756-1191.

The luncheon is sponsored by GT Hiring Solutions
