LEGALIZE IT ALL

Re "This drug strategy is cracked" (Editorial, Oct. 19: I find it bizarre
and illogical that the government hasn't legalized and regulated the
production and distribution of all illicit consumable substances. The move
would virtually wipe out the black market and its associated violence.
Think of the revenue potential and the probability of eliminating the
parole system because there would be so much extra room in our prisons.
Legal or not, the proportion of people consuming these substances will
remain constant. It is futile and counterproductive to prohibit the
consumption of any given substance, be it alcohol, tobacco, pot, cocaine or
heroine. Get it over with and legalize the lot of it.

wonderful fantasy?)
