LET'S SUPPORT THE PROPOSED DETOX CENTRE

All I have read in the newspaper or heard on the radio is the
opposition, mostly from Robert Bonin and Michael Dawe, to the proposed
detox centre.

"Not in my neighbourhood" is so old.

This detox centre, whether in the hub of downtown or at the proposed
site, is badly needed in Red Deer.

These addicts are our sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, and
even our mothers and fathers.

Once an addict makes the decision to get clean, he/she needs fast
access to treatment.

These are real people with a problem that has become a disease. We can
help by showing support and compassion.

We need to stand beside the Safe Harbour Society and say yes to this
proposed site.

I'd rather be confronted by an addict looking for directions to a
detox centre than one who feels there's no hope and will do whatever
he/she has to for a fix.

These people don't wake up one day and say, "Yes, I'm going to become
an addict today."

There is hope through a detox centre.

If you think addicts aren't in your neighbourhood, take a good look
around you.

I'm sure a friend, neighbour, family member (close or distant) is
dealing with alcoholism or addiction.

Let's not let the few opponents drive fear into the hearts of those
who may not have a strong opinion on this matter.

Show your support for the proposed detox centre. Show you care for
your fellow human beings.
