'ROYAL BODYGUARD' NABBED IN DRUGS OP

A man who claimed to be a bodyguard of the Pahang royal household was
among 12 people arrested during a crime prevention operation around
Dataran Merdeka early yesterday.

The man, believed to be in his 50s, was initially detained as the
Proton Waja he was driving had a strobe light similar to the one used
by cops in unmarked cars. The Waja was fitted with the emblem of the
Kerabat Di Raja Pahang (Pahang Royalty).

The man claimed he was sight-seeing with his girlfriend, a 22-year-
old student of a college in Nilai.

Both were detained when police found a small amount of Eramine 5 pills
in the suspect's wallet.

Police also found a photo album with pictures of pistols which the
suspect claimed were the handguns provided by his clients when he was
protecting them.

The man called several of his "VIP" friends in a bid to secure his
freedom. The cops were not impressed and took him to the station for
questioning.

He was released on police bail later in the day. The man's companion
was not detained.

Dang Wangi deputy police chief Superintendent Mohd Rodzi Ismail said
about 150 youths, mostly bikers and their pillion riders, were
screened in the four-hour operation to curb illegal racing and dadah
abuse.

Police also arrested four men in their early 20s for investigation
into robbery cases.

Four motorcyclists were arrested after they tested positive for dadah
and three more were held after the motorcycles they were using were
suspected to have been stolen.

The rest, including 15 girls, were released after Mohd Rodzi gave them
a tongue-lashing for staying out late and mixing with racers and
suspected dadah abusers.
