P30-M 'MJ' DESTROYED

AGENTS of the Philippine National Police and the Philippine Drug
Enforcement Agency on Wednesday and Thursday destroyed P30.5 million
worth of marijuana in two clandestine plantations in Benguet and
Maguindanao.

According to PNP Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Force
commander Director Marcelo S. Ele, Jr., suspected New People's Army
guerrillas were believed to be maintaining the two-hectare plantation
in Buguias, Benguet. The rebels fled.

Ele said some 500,000 fully-grown marijuana plants and 50,000
seedlings were uprooted in Sitio Soukan in Barangay Lam-ayan, Buguias
town.

He said farm implements such as sprayers and insecticides were found
at the site.

No arrest was made during the operation conducted by AIDSOTF
operatives led by Supt. Melcecio M. Buslig, Jr. and the 1604th
Provincial Mobile Group under Supt. Brent M. Madjaco, said Ele.

In Matanog, Maguindanao, police destroyed some P2.5 million worth of
marijuana plants in Barangay Bayanga Norte Thursday. The cultivator
identified as Abdullah Wahab escaped and was being hunted, Ele said.
