SOMETHING SMELLS HERE

Mayor-elect Sam Sullivan says something smells fishy about news the
RCMP has been asked to see whether a criminal investigation is
warranted into Sullivan's now well-known decision to buy crack for an addict.

"I very much question the fact that Mayor Campbell wrote a letter to
the solicitor general in the middle of the campaign and brought this
up in the media," Sullivan told reporters yesterday before his last
meeting as a city councillor. "I question whether that was
appropriate when he was so clearly advocating for Jim Green and
against me [during the election]."

Sullivan beat rival Jim Green for the mayor's seat last week. But
since his victory, he's been attacked for reversing his position on
his dealings with independent candidate James Green. And now in his
latest hurdle, Vancouver Police Chief Jamie Graham has requested the
RCMP look into Sullivan's past behaviour, which resurfaced in the
heated election campaign.

But Sullivan seems to have support from at least one of his traditional foes.

COPE Coun. Tim Louis, who may have disagreed with Sullivan the most
out of anyone on council, yesterday urged the police to "withdraw
itself from involvement in the political arena."
