Dr. Dwight Moulin

Dwight Moulin, professor in the Departments of Clinical Neurological
Sciences and Oncology at Western, has been appointed as the Earl Russell
Chair in Pain Management through September 30, 2010.

The academic mission of the Earl Russell Chair is to facilitate and foster
interdisciplinary research in pain and to advance teaching of pain
management throughout the programs of the Schulich School of Medicine &
Dentistry.

Moulin, a Western graduate, is also Medical Director of Pain and Symptom
Management at London Regional Cancer Program. He completed a two year
fellowship in pain and neuro-oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer
Center in New York City.

Moulin is an international authority on the role of opioid analgesics in
the management of chronic pain. He published the first randomized
controlled trial of morphine for chronic non-cancer pain which is
considered a landmark study in this area of research.

He also has several current research projects funded by CIHR and CFI. These
include the safety and efficacy of marijuana for chronic pain, the role of
sublingual opioids for cancer pain and the long-term outcome of the
management of neuropathic pain.
