ALLEGED SHABU LAB FINANCIER KILLED

AN alleged financier of shabu laboratories and warehouses that were
raided by the police in December was shot dead by four gunmen believed
to be vigilantes in Davao City on Friday.

Undersecretary Anselmo Ave-nido Jr., head of the Philippine Drug
Enforcement Agency (PDEA), identified the dead as Joey Kho, alias
Edgardo Dayrit, owner of the Dayrit Merchandizing on Monteverde Street
in Davao City.

Avenido said that based on initial investigation, Kho appeared to be
the financier of a shabu lab and several warehouses in Davao City that
were raided on December 30, 2004, by antidrug operatives.

He said the agency still has no idea who killed Kho.

Initial reports said that Kho was standing outside his store waiting
for an employee early Friday morning when four unidentified men shot
him.

The report said that the victim died on the spot from several gunshot
wounds. The gunmen used .45-caliber pistols, based on the spent
cartridges police found in the crime scene. .

On December 31, 2004, six men were killed in a shootout with police
during a raid on a shabu laboratory on MacArthur Highway, Barangay
Dumoy in Davao City.

Police recovered some 76 kilos of shabu with a street value of P145
million from the lab.

Clues from the raided laboratory led police to another secret shabu
lab on Del Pilar Street, Agdao District, and a shabu warehouse in
Bunawan Proper, both in Davao City.
