Newly elected Mayor Donald Jefferson visited city hall on Tuesday to take the randomly requested test, which city attorney Betsey Jones said stems from a 1990 anti-drug program in Clinton. The Louisiana Supreme Court had previously ruled that elected officials are exempt from such tests, however. Jefferson said he was shocked at the request. "I have very little trust in some of the things being done up here, things that are being thrown my way," Jefferson said. "And in order to protect myself is the reason I had my own individual test done." Jefferson also took a test Monday in Baton Rouge. He said the results came back negative. - --- MAP posted-by: SHeath(DPFFLorida)
