EDITORIAL: TRAGIC DEATHS MAKE US AWARE OF DRUG PROBLEM

There can be a tendency to wish away the bad news when two men are dead in
the community from a drug overdose.

Michael Guyette Jr. and Michael Grygera died Feb. 3 in Oshkosh of drug
overdoses from lethal doses of a prescription painkiller, OxyContin. The
aftermath and investigation of these tragic deaths has forced our community
to realize we have a problem.

For police, it means more emphasis on paying attention to details like
prescription drug bottles found when checking out a possible crime. For
pharmacies, it means they may become more involved in helping police when
these situations arise.

Most of the community may wish this problem would go away. One way to make
some sense out of these deaths is to increase our awareness of this problem.
