The killing of four Mounties at a marijuana grow operation in Alberta last week has led to calls for stiffer measures against people who run grow ops. The Recorder and Times found locals very much in agreement this weekend when it asked six people the following question: "Do you support tougher measures against grow ops?" Jim Empey, Merrickville: "I do. I think that grow ops are becoming more sophisticated all the time and the people that are operating them are more desperate. "These tragedies, I believe, are more likely to occur if we don't crack down on them." Harold Plunkett, Mallorytown: "Definitely, I would. The government's so wishy-washy. You're either going to outlaw it completely or you're going to legalize it. "I think they should stamp them out, period." Sharon Stein, Prescott: "I certainly think that's an excellent idea. "It's time we cleaned this country up and got tough with lawbreakers... Victims have no rights." Amanda Crouse, Brockville: "Yes... because it's bad for you. It's not healthy." Betty Donovan, Brockville: "For sure. I can't believe that four of them were gunned down so quickly. It (cracking down) wouldn't hurt." Grant Turner, Brockville: "I'm in favour of it. "Longer sentences and counselling, I guess, better counselling (to rehabilitate offenders)." Your Turn appears in this space every Monday. - --- MAP posted-by: Richard Lake
