MUNTINLUPA MOBILIZES VARIOUS SECTORS FOR DRUG-FREE CAMPAIGN

The city of Muntinlupa has launched a comprehensive campaign against
drug abuse, which will mobilize various sectors, including schools,
youth organizations, companies, civic groups and barangays.

The "Movement for a Drug-Free Muntinlupa" is part of the preventive
education program of the city's Drug Abuse Prevention and Control
Office (DAPCO). It is currently holding a series of lectures on the
dangers posed by illegal drugs in schools, workplaces and
communities.

DAPCO head Chito Valerio said the movement will zero in on the
implementation of a school-based drug prevention education program
through student councils. It will also organize city-wide youth
organizations and promote drug-free workplaces all over the city.

DAPCO's community-based programs, on the other hand, will mobilize parents
in educating family members on the adverse effects of dangerous drugs.
Called "Responsible Parenting: Key to Drug Abuse Prevention," the program
seeks to equip parents with the skills to educate the children on the
hazards of illegal drugs.

Helping the city implement the program are homeowners' groups, the
Dangerous Drugs Board, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, the police,
religious groups and barangays.
