RCMP TRAGEDY

The tragic deaths of 4 young Mounties precipitated a flurry of shameful 
butt covering by people in power. RCMP command, long overdue for a civilian 
watchdog on their activities, were quick to rub out the prospect of any 
bungling on their part. Yet how could 4 officers be sitting ducks for a 
suspect with such a history of violence? Ann McLellan, who barely saves her 
seat every election, blamed marijuana grow ops before there could be any 
suggestion that gun registration allowed this man to have an assault rifle. 
Ralph Klein, fresh from a failed promise to get the border open, stumbled 
into the foray also blaming grow ops. Never mind the fact that the police 
had gone to repossess a truck. Paul Martin, seeking a vote of confidence at 
the Liberal Convention, was able to manage 2 moments of silence. When RCMP 
planes flew to the memorial service in Edmonton, there was no space for 
rank and file officers since all seats were filled by butts of the brass. 
How can we expect more people of the caliber these public spirited men to 
enlist and serve under such shameful leadership?
