LEGALIZATION OF THE CHRONIC

To the editor,

Jimmy Kapches' article on the crimes committed by the large syndicates
trafficking in marijuana (Gazette 137:22) was provocative, but put the
emphasis in the wrong place. If we want to end the criminal traffic in
pot we should call for legalization, not consumer boycotts. During the
days of prohibition the alcohol industry was run by violent gangsters.
Now the industry is taxed, regulated, and unionized. We would all be
better off if pot was treated the same way.
