POLICE SEEK THREE SUSPECTS IN SLAYING

Today police continue today to investigate the death of Will Kim, a
first-year Ryerson architecture student. A uniformed officer sat on a
folding chair outside of apartment 1008 late yesterday, and the
building was filled with investigators looking for fingerprints from
one of the assailants.

Det. Sgt. Ken Taylor, lead investigator on the case, said yesterday
that drugs played a key role in the shooting.

"It didn't have anything to do with him being a Ryerson student," said
Taylor. "The reason he has been murdered is his own private
enterprise."

As part of the investigation, police requested surveillance video from
Ryerson and Gerrard Street businesses. While the only shot of the
suspects picked up by Ryerson cameras was from a long distance, the
tape from Covenant House captured the image of the man police believe
to be the shooter dropping a small-calibre revolver.

Police say a large quantity of cash was recovered from the scene,
along with a minor amount of drugs.

The building is directly across the street from Ryerson's campus and
is populated mostly by students from the school.

Taylor said he understands from previous experience how such acts of
violence affect a student population.

"I know the impact is has on the students," he said, referring to a
murder that occurred on the University of Toronto's campus a few years
ago. "I had to speak to 400 students and they were all in tears.
(Parents) were calling (the police station) from all over the world.
They start to panic and think 'it's my kid.'

"But this isn't a Ryerson problem, it's just downtown. People that
deal drugs and have money (are vulnerable), and we believe these
people knew him."

Kim's murder Toronto's fourteenth homicide this year and the second in
a row with a Ryerson connection. Alexander Christoff, who was last a
student at Ryerson in May 2004, was found stabbed to death almost
three weeks ago. Drugs are believed to be a factor in that killing as
well.

Since Kim's girlfriend was present at the time of the shooting, a full
description of the suspects was immediately available to police. The
gunman is described as black, five-foot-eight tall, in his mid-to
late 20s with a medium athletic build. At the time of the shooting, he
was wearing a white do-rag and a hunter green football jersey. The
second suspect is described as five-foot-ten with a thin beard and is
in his mid-to late-20s. The third suspect is black and in the same
age range.

"The investigation is still ongoing now," said Taylor. "Forensic
investigators are still searching for evidence that links suspects to
the scene. We're taking our time trying to get fingerprints in the
place." Taylor said police concluded their investigation at the scene
late yesterday.
