IGNORANCE PREVAILS ABOUT MARIJUANA

To the Editor:

The comments made by Joyce Roth (Letters, March 28) highlight how
ignorant we still are about drugs in this part of the world.

When the Netherlands liberalized their marijuana laws, they were
rewarded with a decrease in new hard-drug addicts. If crystal meth is
not sold by marijuana dealers, it makes it a lot harder for marijuana
users to progress to meth.

England has just decriminalized weed and was rewarded with a decrease
in marijuana use. It seems it is not as attractive when you can't get
arrested for it. Even our own Senate endorses these positions.

I do not want to be confused with some snake-oil salesman, I grew up
in Hinton and understand the dire need for drug reform in the region.
I implore everyone to start educating themselves thoroughly as it is
the only way to truly combat this disease. For those who wish to get
started, I suggest checking out www.mapinc.org.
