FORUM FOCUSES ON DRUG USE IN TEENS

Parents with concerns about drug use in Northumberland can have
their questions answered at an upcoming forum.

The Northumberland Drug Action Committee is bringing together local
agencies and parents who have dealt with drug addiction at St. Mary's
Secondary School in Cobourg Wednesday, April 13 from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.

"These types of forums have really been excellent in bringing together
the community to discuss a problem that confronts many families in
Northumberland," says Lisa van der Vinne, chairwoman of the drug
action committee.

According to a survey of student drug use conducted in 2003, about 70
per cent of teenagers in Central East Ontario who responded to the
survey reported drinking alcohol and nearly one-third said they had
smoked marijuana. Central East Ontario includes Northumberland County.
