VILLAGE FOLK STONE POLICEMAN, PDEA AGENT DURING OPERATION

A policeman and his agent aborted their surveillance operation after
they were stoned in Brgy. San Miguel recently and suffered minor injuries.

A Bacong police report Tuesday identified the policeman as PO1 Cerito
Ongy, 32, married, a member of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency,
who was with Rommel Calidguid.

The suspects were a 17-year-old boy, Gerald Lozada, 21, single, and
Julee Emperado, 22, also single. All are residents of San Miguel, Bacong.

The report also said Ongy and Calidguid were on their way to monitor
alleged drug activities in one of the houses in the village when the
suspects allegedly pelted them with stones.

The vehicle they used in the operation also sustained minor
damages.

The suspects were later arrested and hauled off to jail but were
released a few hours later after the lapse of the reglementary period
for detention. The report did not say what charges were to be filed
against the suspects.

In another development, 35 new PNP personnel are undergoing an
on-the-job training in Dumaguete City beginning last week until
October 2005.

Of the new recruits, seven are female officers and 28 are males, who
came from the different Region 7 provinces.
