With regard to this very subject of illegal drugs impacting the lives and well-being of Asheville's youth, I think the headline could have read "Bottom line: Mumpower put children in harm's way." I say this only because of the juxtaposition of the AC-T's very important coverage of illegal drugs affecting our city's children, with local drug war advocate and City Councilman Carl Mumpower's recent disregard for an incident in which he reportedly snubbed a group of drug dealers by asking for and receiving a standard amount of crack cocaine before proceeding to exit suddenly in a motor vehicle from a housing project where children reside. If we are to truly exercise concern for Asheville's children amidst a local drug crisis, it is not unreasonable to expect that any public officials who claim particular interest in this problem themselves be accountable every step of the way.
