HANDLER SACKED

SYDNEY - A Qantas baggage handler stood down over accusations he was
involved in smuggling cocaine has been sacked, the airline said yesterday.

The Australian Federal Police allege a drug syndicate paid baggage
handlers to smuggle 9.9kg of cocaine past Customs last year.

It's alleged the syndicate was conspiring to import 100kg through the
airport by using baggage handlers.

Qantas chief Geoff Dixon said yesterday investigations were
concentrating on a small number of baggage handlers.
