LEGISLATORS TO DISCUSS CRYSTAL METH

REGINA -- Legislators from the western provinces and northwestern United
States will gather in Regina June 10 to discuss the growing use of crystal
meth.

Health and justice ministers and attorney generals from the Western
provinces will attend the meeting.

Legislators from North Dakota and Montana are planning to attend, and an
invitation has also been extended to elected officials from Idaho.

"It is not a public education conference, it is a conference that is
bringing together, in an unprecedented way, government to compare best
practices and to seek out practical solutions that we all might engage in
to move forward," said Premier Lorne Calvert.

The idea for the meeting came out of the western premiers conference held
earlier this month.

Calvert said the meetings will focus on three areas: legislation,
prevention and treatment.

He said presentations are expected from members of the law enforcement
community and those who handle addictions treatment.
