POLICE SEIZE $119,000

KIRKLAND LAKE - A Highway 11 motorists is a lot lighter in the pocket book
after and investigation by the Kirkland Lake OPP.

The OPP seized $119,000 and some marijuana from a vehicle that was stopped
in a RIDE check on Highway 11 in Eby Township June 1, at about 2:30 a.m.

The local officers were assisted in their investigation by the South
Porcupine Canine Unit.

Charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of
property obtained by crime over $5,000 is Martin St. Pierre, 30, of Lemoyne
Quebec. He is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in
Kirkland Lake July 26.

This seizure comes on the heels of the Kirkland Lake OPP detachment's
discovery of a grow operation on Tuesday, which resulted in the seizure of
about 4,500 marijuana plants, growing equipment and an illegal fire arm.

The estimated potential street value of the marijuana is $4.5 million and
the growing equipment seized was worth about $10,000.

The local OPP detachment has enjoyed considerable success in tracking down
and seizing drugs making their way through the area.

On April 23, 2004 Kirkland Lake OPP seized plants, with a potential street
value of $408,000, plus growing equipment from a commercial vehicle
travelling on Highway 11.

On March 29, 2004, police seized 2,331 grams of marijuana valued at $23,000
from a vehicle on Highway 66 east of Virginiatown.

On Oct. 24, 2004 Kirkland Lake OPP made the detachment's largest seizure of
drugs when they discovered 35 kilograms of cocaine. The estimated street
value was between four million and eight million dollars.
