SOME FACTS WERE LEFT OUT

On Tuesday, July 25, Tribune reporter Reid Magney wrote a column
titled, "Doobie do-over," in which he commented on the possibility of
the La Crosse County Board reconsidering an ordinance that the county
board just passed in regard to possession of marijuana. Insightful as
Magney attempted to be though, he did leave out several key points
that made his column extremely slanted politically.

For example, he commented on the fact that I was the board member who
was being considered to move for reconsideration, but he neglected to
mention the fact that two other members of the county board were also
thinking about asking for reconsideration.

Second, Magney neglected to mention the fact that the issue at hand
couldn't be reconsidered even if every member of the board wanted to
because of the fact that one of our own ordinances prevents us from
doing so after publication has occurred.

Lastly, Magney commented on how this possible decision has made some
of my fellow board members resent some of my opinions. I would like
to know who Magney has spoken to, because after speaking to several
of my fellow board members in regard to the issue, none of them
expressed discontent with my "board etiquette," as Magney eloquently
described it in his column.

In fact, I find it interesting how Mr. Magney could be so opinionated
when he wasn't even present at the June meeting of the county board
when this issue was discussed.
