GROUP SCHEDULES METH AWARENESS PRESENTATION FOR SCHOOL EMPLOYEES

Members of Project Right Choice on Thursday discussed an upcoming
methamphetamine awareness presentation aimed at school staff.

The meeting, which is set for 9 a. m. on Sept. 14, will be held at
the Northwest Arkansas Education Service Co-op in Farmington. The
program will highlight the effects of methamphetamine abuse, how
it's produced and what it looks like. Also discussed will be meth
labs and the quantity that's imported. The meeting will target
nurses, counselors, resource officers and teachers.

" We hope to get Lisa Dennis, the prosecuting attorney for the drug
court program, to talk, " said Lt. Mike Reynolds of the Fayetteville
Police Department. " Charla Jamerson of the Jamerson Forensic Clinic
will also give a presentation on the effects of meth on children. "

Project Right Choice members also discussed fund-raising
opportunities for future awareness programs. The group recently
formed a subcommittee responsible for developing these ideas and
presenting them to the committee.

" Hopefully we'll bring back some ideas for our fund-raising effort
at our next meeting, " Reynolds said.

In other business, Pam Burton, creator of the Project Right Choice
Web site, recently added a link for contact information of area
treatment centers. The Web site, www. projectrightchoice. com, was
created as an additional avenue for promoting methamphetamine
awareness. The site also features a search link for meth lab seizure
locations. Reynolds said a link to the site should be posted on the
city's Web site within the next few days.

" Hopefully we'll be able to get it on the county's Web site as
well, " he said.

Reynolds said information about the group's Web site will also be
available during the Madison County Fair.

" We'll have a booth set up there next Monday -- it's just another
way of creating awareness, " he said. " We'll also have the number
for our hotline posted.

The number for the methamphetamine hotline is (888 ) 852-4908.

" Generally, people call it to provide information about meth use,
labs or components of meth, " said Sgt. Doug Pope of the
Fayetteville Police Department.

The next Project Right Choice meeting is currently scheduled for Sept. 21.
