WILKINS NO FAN OF SAFE-INJECTION SITE

U.S. Ambassador David Wilkins is not a big fan of North America's only
safe-injection site.

And while he plans to tour Vancouver's Downtown Eastside during his
visit to Vancouver, a stop at the InSite facility isn't on the agenda.
"Too much of a bad thing isn't better," Wilkins said yesterday of
providing addicts a safe place to inject drugs.

On another issue, Wilkins said nothing will stop an American plan to
require a passport or other secure document before travellers can
cross into the U.S.

Critics have said the plan will harm tourism and inconvenience
travellers. Even Premier Gordon Campbell has raised concerns about the
plan.

Said Wilkins: "We need to work together on the implementation of it and not
put so much effort on the, 'Not going to happen,' because it is going to
happen. It's just a matter of when."
