DRUG ADDICTS NEED AS MUCH COMPASSION AS SICK

The Editor,

Re: "Liberals are right in not helping the drug addicted," the Now
letters, Sept. 23.

A response to M. Brian's letter is, I feel, in order. Apparently, his
neighbourhood is chock full of drug-addicted welfare recipients. Why
else would he write such a hate filled diatribe to the newspaper?
Yes, he is probably right there are drug addicts on social
assistance; however, to suggest that the Liberal government was
correct to choke them all, including those with disabilities, was
wrong headed to the extreme. He says, "They want to be loved and are
in need of compassionate people who are willing to help make a difference."

If only Mr. Brian would say the same thing about drug-addicted people
the world might be a better place.
