NONPROFIT PICKED FOR STUDENT DRUG-TESTING

Bacon Street - the private Williamsburg nonprofit that deals with
substance abuse and prevention issues for teens and their families -
has been selected by Williamsburg-James City County school officials
to administer the new voluntary, random student drug-testing program.

The contract will be up for a vote at the School Board's Tuesday
meeting. Bacon Street would charge $40 per test, according to a W-JCC
memo. The testing will be paid for through a federal grant.

Middle school and high school students participating in the program
will be randomly selected, then called out of class for a drug test.

According to the new policy, only the drug lab and the student's
family will be informed if a student tests positive for drugs.
