WHAT IS ROLE OF TAXPAYERS?

Re: "Harm Reduction Less Costly," Letter To The Editor, Wednesday, Sept. 27.

I do not think that Teow Tong Chua is against helping people who are
drug addicts and who want to be drug free again. What I do not
understand, however, is why taxpayers, accordingly to Russell Barth,
must be forced to provide drug addicts with free needles and heroin
and pay for the place where they can do drugs. Being a drug addict is
a decision one makes, so one should take full responsibility for his
habit and pay for that, as non-drug addicts pay, for instance, for food.

By the way, watching people injecting drugs at INsite is not health
care, it is helping them to kill themselves gradually. I see no
reason why taxpayers should be responsible for that.
