'NEVER-ENDING' ILLS OF THE DOWNTOWN EASTSIDE

I'm sure Irene Abramyk is well-intentioned, but I couldn't help 
rolling my eyes as I read her letter (Oct. 12).

Every once in a while we travel through East Hastings and are jolted 
by a reality check of how bad it really is.

Sometimes, someone is "sickened" enough to write a letter to the 
editor. That's as far as they ever take it.

There is no quick fix for the East Hastings area. But no one is 
willing to dig in for the long haul -- not the politicians, and not 
the letter-writers. And so the problem continues.
