COMIC NOT FUNNY

This Letter Is Regarding Anthony Frattaroli's Political Comic in The
Opinion Section of the Oct. 12 Martlet.

This comic is unfunny, offensive and seems to have totally missed the
point of the Centre for Addictions Research of BC's (CARBC) findings.
The CARBC study had nothing to do with science or "invalidation" of
cannabis use. How the artist of your comic drew that meaning from it
is a mystery to me, and demonstrates fairly poor comprehension of the
issue. The stereotypical lazy stoner from movies like Half Baked is,
contrary to popular conservative belief, quite rare. Most cannabis
users are responsible citizens, just like everyone else. We are bus
drivers, teachers, students, clerks, tradespeople, programmers, and
just about any other job you can think of, including in some cases, presidents.

Maybe we like a puff in the evening to help us fall asleep, or just
an odd joint now and again when partying with friends. Very few of us
would consider our lifestyles "worthless" as your cartoonist seems to believe.

The only thing worthless here is this blatantly offensive and
derogatory comic. Perhaps next week you could run a hilarious Prophet
Muhammed spoof? Poor call, Martlet editors.
