No less than Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Arturo Lomibao handed the reward to the tipster during a simple ceremony at Camp Crame. The cash was turned over under the reward system for informants of the Directorate for Intelligence of the PNP. Lomibao also awarded a Medalya ng Kadakilaan to Director Marcelo Ele Jr., commander of the Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Force (AIDSOTF), which raided the shabu market located at the Mapayapa compound in Barangay Sto. Tomas, Pasig City last Feb. 10. Other AIDSOTF officials and personnel who played key roles in the raid were also given the medals. The PNP chief turned over the money to the informant during cocktails following the medal ceremony for agents at Camp Crame. The informant's face was covered with a handkerchief during the ceremony. Sources said he is an overseas Filipino worker and a drug user who often visited the drug market. However, during one of his visits to the drug den, a certain Dario, believed to be one of the operators, allegedly grabbed his cell phone worth P15,000. As a result of the incident, the informant vowed to get even with Dario. The suspect had escaped unnoticed during the Nov. 10 raid. At least 21 police officials have been relieved from their respective posts because of the Pasig drug den debacle. Because of the embarrassment caused by the raid, Lomibao ordered the re-training of the entire 325-strong Pasig City police force. - --- MAP posted-by: Tom
