GOOD PARENTING KEEPS DRUGS AWAY: NARCOTIC CHIEF

Kota Kinabalu: State Narcotic Crime Investigation Department Head,
Supt. Yap Thoon Khuan, said parents should keep a close eye on their
children so that they would not get involved in drugs.

He said this is because children and teenagers are easily influenced
and that even a stick of cigarette can lead them to drugs.

"Parents should keep an eye on their children (and) keep them away
from triads and gangsters.

"There were even cases that drug-pushers used innocent children in
the delivery of drugs," he said, adding good parenting was one of
the most effective ways to keep children away from drugs.

Meanwhile, experts would be called in to help kick-start the Kanaan
drug rehabilitation centre situated in Papar, the first registered
body of its kind, which is expected to start operating in a couple of months.

Recently, the committee of the Kanaan Social Service Centre
conducted several anti-drugs awareness seminars in Papar, including
at St Joseph Primary School, SKJ ?Anglo, Sekolah Cheng Hwa and Papar
Middle School.

In other developments, Yap also commended the local non-governmental
(NGOs) organisations in Sabah for being active in the fight against drugs.
