DEAD GIRL: HEROIN FEAR

A 15-year-old schoolgirl has died of a suspected heroin overdose and
a 21-year-old man who was taken from the same house was fighting for
his life in hospital last night.

Grampian Police said they were called to a house in Torry, Aberdeen,
shortly after 7am. "Both persons were conveyed to Aberdeen Royal
Infirmary where the 15-year-old female subsequently died," a
spokeswoman said. "The condition of the male is described as
'critical but stable'."

Police said a 37-year-old woman has been charged with offences
relating to the death and was due to appear at Aberdeen Sheriff Court.

Neighbours at the flat in Loirston Place said the pair were taken
from a top-floor flat. One said she had seen the teenager being taken
into the ambulance. "She looked older than 15," she added.

The death follows the case of the 11-year-old girl earlier this year
who admitted having been taking heroin for two months and collapsed
at school in the Pollok area of Glasgow.

At that time Gaille McCann, a Glasgow city councillor, said that it
was not an isolated incident.
