IT'S ABOUT TIME TORONTO ANSWERED WAKE-UP CALL

Re: Time to pay attention to organized crime, April 10.

I was born and raised in Toronto and remained a proud and loyal
resident until quite recently.

It is, therefore, with great sadness that I must emphatically state
that it hasn't been Toronto the Good for quite some time now and the
"wake-up call" mentioned in this story has actually been made on
several occasions over the past five to 10 years and was never answered.

I have watched with increasing dismay as our children have been
exposed to alarmingly more dangerous and addictive drugs, have been
shot down in the streets with guns that are all too readily available
and have been led to believe that our highways and rural roads have
become our unofficial dump sites.

Where strong leadership, educational initiatives and action are most
needed, I have watched, with growing frustration, as politicians and
public figures alike ruminate over what is to be done.

May I make a suggestion? Perhaps it's time to deactivate the call
waiting option on wake-up calls and just start picking up the phone,
especially when the caller ID is displaying Toronto 911!
